This study of the epic poem Lima fundada (1732), by the Peruvian Pedro de Peralta Barnuevo de Benavides y Roches (1664-1743), analyzes and asserts relationships between identity and hybridity in the text to uncover Peraltas identitarian constructs for the Peruvian Viceroyalty within the Monarquia, for the Viceroyaltys elite within the Nacion (the worldwide community of Spaniards), and for himself within the transatlantic Republic of Letters.
