T the lenition environments in which lenition typically occurs. This conflict also helps, and explain variation patterns and the extra-linguistic factors (e.g. fast or casual speech, and/or age, social class and gender-based variability) influencing in which lenition occurs. More specifically, Chapter 1 consists of an introduction to the themes and goals of the dissertation.
